Just 40 minutes from the camping Parc de Montsabert.
Well-known since Gallo-Roman times, the name of the Cave de Saumur winemaking location has become increasingly famous over the centuries. As part of a guided tour which starts in a large, vaulted cellar dating back to the 12th century, among other things you'll discover Europe's deepest bottling room, and, in the 8km maze of tunnels, the secrets of traditional winemaking methods.
Roots is the best word to describe the strong association between the Cave de Saumur and the local region, taking hold as they do in the depths of the soil and blossoming out when they reach the surface. La Cave de Saumur was set up in 1956 as a means of continuing this ancient association. In the 10km of underground cellars you'll find out about the extraordinary history of the vineyards of the Loire Valley, all just a 40 minute drive from the camping Parc de Montsabert.
